"One day the mountain will fly away " is a collaborative
multimedia art project which explores the relationship between landscape as
a natural and divine force and enclosed space as a device of civilization.
We use art (sound, movement , text, photography and video, interactive media)
as an attempt to translate between natural landscape and enclosed space, to
develop a new dimension of communication to decode the departure of the
flying mountain .
This project is inspired by the
Tibetan legend of
the Flying Mountain : According
to Tibetan folklore, mountains came flying in from another country, in general
from India, at the time when some natural disaster was ravaging Tibet; However,
their presence in Tibet is not at all permanent, and they can fly away again
from the country at any time. These mountains are able to move , a very
surprising concept given that mountains represent, generally speaking, stability
and immutability. The coming of a flying mountain suppresses whatever
disorder the country is suffering and its presence maintains order. However,
at any time they may fly away again, ushering in a new period of degeneration
and devestation.
Legend has it that mTsho snying Ma há de va (the heart of the lake) located
in North-eastern Tibet is one of these flying mountains. It's a rocky
island.
This project is based on the idea of the divinity of the mountain's departure.
The old legend mentioned a time of degeneration.
question one : Are we close to such a period of degeneration now?
question two : where will the flying mountain land next?
question three: Can we fly to any place we want to go now?
answer three :
In the old days there was a lot more of everything. yes, there used to be mysterious
islands, kingdoms and whole continents that no longer exist.
( - the 13 1/2 lives of captain bluebear, a novel--by--Walter Moers-)
question four: can we listen to the fresh butter tea form Tibet
?
I answer : our ear is made for listening to the air.

Sound
is a phenomenom involved in and determining the shape of the world.
Landscape is shaped by the interaction of time and space.
We may define landscape as an acoustic container
and sound as a dialogue through which landscape and humans can interact.
This phenomenon gives us a chance to experience and recreate an invisible landscape,
and generate its energy.
We treated our sound recordings from Tibet in a specific
way to give the impression of an enclosed space, and so to give a perceptible
density of energy from the original space and time in which it was recorded.
We used multi-track recording on DAT and minidisc with two different types
of microphones.
* 2 x OKM binaural Mic. -
allows for realistic spatial representation
** 1 x mini DV camera internal Mic. - spatiality
according to visual perspective
We also recorded spatial movements
in order to make solid unstable abstract energic. Show trajectories instead
of static situations. These recordings deal with our perceptions of space and
time, our relationships with landscapes, both external and within ourselves.

Projekt-Raum - an encolosed space is a container for an art
exhibition, event, action and related behaviour. This space, as a device of
civilization, has its own attributes such as collectivity, collaboration, experimentation,
as well as selectivity, temporariness and expressivity.
The art gallery is a reflection of our culutre and society,
it concerns and also drives the culutral development.
Projekt-Raum has been chosen as the space where the the art project «One
day the mountain will fly away» will be presented. The duration
of the exhibition is 10 days (13th.June to 22th.June 2002), setting a
defined Point Of Depature and a limitation on the intensity of time.
** cut to : The space of architecture:
meaning as presence and representation:
“ Plato is describing nothing less than the space of human
creation and participation, postulating a coincidence between topos and chora
(human creativity, and a cosmic abstract space). Chora is a distinct reality
to be apprehended in the chiasma , the cross, of Being and Becoming.
The relationship between topos and chora is the basis for human creativity,
the provenience of poetry and art."

all different particles belong to their own " ground",
but based on one Legend. "One Day the Mountain will Fly Away".
/ Echo Ho and Hannes Hölzl went to Tiebt in summer 2001, looking for the
flying mountain and
brought back their sound recordings and road images
:
+ a 9 days permanent sound setup makes projekt-raum
an audible space.
* 8 x loudspeakers multi-channel, of which
4 speakers are distributed around the wall, all facing to the centre of the
room. they are outputs of the live soundscape played by Echo Ho and Hannes Hölzl.
a compass of
4 plexiglass speakers placed in the space's centre projects the sound manipulated
by the dancer.
+ the Rough Cut Tibetan Roads video images are projected on the window during
the 9 days.
these picked up memories are mostly about developing
roads in Tibet, and endless turning pilgrim wheels.
The circle is not round, the way points to the departure......
/ From the time before their departure to Tibet up until the present the
team has shared the legend of Flying Mountain with other
artists who had their own responses to the legend ......
The first story becoming :
+ Photography from Andreas Hirsch.
he wrote for his photo series "This Summer I didn't
go to China" :
The second story: The outputs of the two sources of sound, desktop musicians
and moving performer, are spatially and timbrally separated through different
types of loudspeakers and different installation postions in space;
even different setups like column and surround are used to emphasize the
difference of their own presence. Eventually, they both meet in
space, so visitors will experience the whole space ( topos and chora )
through their own chiasmic perception of sound, movement and themselves.

The third story:

back to the roots where we got the inspiration for this
art project.
the legend of flying mountain, the living legend of looking for the departure.
Inversion of a point of departure is a poetic and critical argument.
